The status of Lil Wayne’s long-awaited fifth album The Carter V is still up in the air, but at least we finally have some new music from the rapper! Weezy released a mixtape for the fans this week, titled quite appropriately.. Sorry 4 the Wait 2, and it certainly does not disappoint in the collaboration department.
The independent album is not brief, boasting an impressive 17 tracks, but it’s Wayne’s remix of Beyonce’s Drunk in Love that will really have people talking. The song not only samples Mrs. Carter’s 2014 megahit with Jay Z, but it also features the “Lollipop” rapper’s rumored girlfriend, Christina Milian. The reviews have been mixed so far, but let’s just say that the lyrics are not afraid to go there…
Turn Up Tina isn’t the only familiar face on the project, which also features 2 Chainz on “Preach” and Mack Mane on “Try Me.” And it’s no surprise that Lil Wayne’s protege and pal Drake gets in on the action, appearing on the banger “Used To” which sees both emcees showing their stuff over a heavy beat.
This isn’t the first time the hip hop star has apologized to his fans through his music. He released his first Sorry 4 the Wait mixtape in 2011 when his Tha Carter IV was delayed — though it did come out a month later. We could take this as a sign that TC5 is just around the corner, but that depends when Wayne’s issues with his label, Cash Money, are sorted out. The album was originally due way back in October 2013, but has been postponed ever since. It was most recently removed from the release schedule on December 9, 2014.
Fingers crossed we’ll see the new album soon, but for now, this extra large mixtape should tide us over!
