2014 was the year of DJ Mustard. Almost from the beginning, it was clear that Mustard wasn’t going to let Pharrell and Mike Will Made it- who dominated 2013, to stand in the way of his chance to rule the radio. Whether it was the Top 10 hits like “Don’t Tell ‘Em” and “I Don’t Fuck With You” or even Platinum singles like “Show Me” and “Who Do You Love?” Mustard proved that his beats were what were making the world go round this past year.
The biggest indication of Mustard’s success has been just in how many artists came to him for beats. In 2014 alone he had bangers with longtime friends YG, Kid Ink and Ty Dolla $ign who was a producer as well. Although artists such as T.I. (“No Mediocre), Tinashe (“2 On”), Meek Mill (“She Don’t Know”) and French Montana (“Don’t Panic”) all also dipped into Mustard’s deep well of hits (he even spawned imitators, with tracks like Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Chris Brown’s “Loyal” seemingly coming straight out of Mustard’s playbook).
